Starting to quilt again

I have finally been able to start quilting again. The surgery from 2 months ago went well on my ankle and I am just starting to be able to push the pedal down with my foot. Going to try again today and see if I can use the sewing machine more than a couple of minutes.

New Baby Born

Baby Gabriel John was born on December 19 which happens to be my birthday also. He is a very welcome new addition to our family. Can not wait for the new parents to bring the baby to see me and spend the week with us.

Big Block Beauty

Carmen (from the Yahoo group One Stitch at a Time) released some quilt patterns she calls Big Block Beauties. This is one of the patterns.

I used my fabric a little different in the quilt so I got the look of a star .

Myster Quilt With Borders

The borders are on the quilt and what a difference it made. The borders pulled all the colors together and made a big difference in the way it looks.

I had some samples from a store and decided to make a quilt from them. You can see the ruler beside the quilt to see the size of the blocks. I think it will be a cute Barbie quilt for my grand daughter

Starr Hand Dye Fabrics

I fell in love with this color run of fabric and just had to make the little quilt. I have not finished the borders and applique but I was happy with the quiltlet. The squares were cut at 2 inches.

Allison's Flower of Hope Block

I finished the real blocks and mailed them to Carmen. Several of the members of the yahoo group (One Stitch) have volunteered to make the Allison's blocks. We are all using white on white backgrounds and green for the leaves but everyone has picked the color they want to use for the flowers.

Carmen is making the quilt for her friend with all the blocks.

Carmen (from the Yahoo Group) drew a block for a friend of hers with some medical problems. I put the block in my Electric Quilts program so we could see how it would look and work out the

instructions for it.

Mystery Quilt Clues #2 and #3

This is a picture of clues 2 and 3. Both clues use the same block. I really enjoyed working with this quilt. I pulled the colors for the quilt from an Oriental print. I was really suprised at how the colors worked out as well as they did.

This is clue #1 from a mystery that I did for the One Stitch at a Time Yahoo Group. The mystery (called All in the color family) is going on right now but Carmen who is the group owner created a test group so we can test the instructions before the pattern goes to the group. Hopefully we will catch any problems with the patterns this way. I will be posting my blocks as the instructions for each clue are released to the group.

I do not get to see them because they live on base in Hawii and I miss them terribly.

Calico Junction Blocks

These are a few of my first foundation pieced blocks. I fell in love with foundation piecing stars. I was able to do blocks I would never have attempted with templates. I hated working with template plastic.

I have made 14 blocks so far in with this fabric and I plan on making a minimum of at least 20. I hope I have enough fabric for 30 blocks.

Twisted Log Cabin

This block is one of the main reasons I started foundation piecing. I had only made one block when I started foundation piecing this one. I always have several projects going at the same time. I really had an introduction to foundation piecing with this block. There were so many pieces to cut and sew and the lines were hard to keep up with. I sewed the wrong line a few times and had to "unsew." The block has not been finished yet because I am thinking about making it the center of a medallion quilt.

This quilt started out as a lap quilt for while I am watching TV. A friend of mine that was visiting saw the fabric and the first few blocks and decided that she must have it. I went back to the fabric store and purchased enough of the fabric for a king size quilt and made it up. The wall hanging wasjust left over pieces.

A group of friends and myself started a round robin with a christmas theme. This is the result. I have every intention of adding at least one more round to it and probably 2 plus the border.

Another Calico Carriage Pattern (Winter Blues)

Even though this quilt is not a star I just love the winter toile and the feel of the blues. I bought fabric for another of these qults (a cowgirl barrel racer) and just have not got around to it yet.

This pattern is the same as the previos one but I had to figure out how to use more colors and make them work. It took graph paper and time to figure yardage and the way the colors would work in the quilt. I later found a pattern for this size quilt. The picture does not do the quilt justice. It is very large and it did not hang well while being photographed.

These patterns are great. The instructions are fantastic and the pattern goes together very easily. I can make one of these quilts in less than a day if I work steady. I love stars and these make nice quilts.

I really like the turning 20 quilts. They show your fabric well and are very easy.

I turned the blocks different ways and made two totally different looking quilts.

Trip Around The World 2

I enjoyed the other Trip Around The World quilt so much that when I saw this in the Quilter's Magazine I new exactly what fabric to use to make the pattern.

I had seen this fabric at my Local Quilt Shop and I had fallen in love with it. It is the Moda Botanical line and it is stunning fabric.

I fell in love with this pattern and had been

looking for something to do with all the fat quarters I had bought at a sale. I thought the two were made for each other.

It took me about 4 days of work to make this quilt. I loved making everything line up and just had a lot offun making this quilt.

It is so big that part of it is on the floor.

Ricky Timms Convergence Quilt

This is a quilt I had a lot of fun with. I had the bright colors I love and a pattern that was unlike anything I had completed before. I just love the fabric in this quilt. The fabric in the middle of the quilt is by Paula Nadelstern (she is one of my favorte fabric artists) and the border is a batik I happened upon after the quilt was completed. I could not believe how well it matched.

A group of friends and I had a sew day and we all made these quilts. Every one of them was so very different.

Jan's Quilt

I had my step mother in mind when I started this quilt. This quilt was a callenge to me in several ways.
I prefer to use bright colors and the beige on beige tones of this quilt had to have balance. If one of the browns was to strong it overpowered the quilt and all you saw were those blocks (I still have several blocks that did this). I also had to be careful with the value so I did not lose the piecing in the quilt. I wanted the blocks to be subtle but still be able to see all the work.
Most of the people I talked to about doing a quilt all in shades of beige on beige told me it could not be done and it would be boring.
I am suprised at how much I like this quilt. I find it soothing.

Laurel Birch Quilt

I saw this Laurel Birch pattern beside the bolts of fabric and it looked so easy. I fell in love with the fabric and had to have it.

I had a good bit of trouble with the 4 patches because my quarter inch seam was not very accurate. I was so happy with quilt. I really started feeling much more confident and decided it was time to start doing harder quilts.

I found out my son in law was going overseas in the army and I just had to do a flag pattern. This is my first attempt at a scrap quilt. It was so hard not to make every other one a lighter or darker value. I was hoping for a waving in the winds look with the way the fabric was placed.

This quilt is from a mystery by Debby Caffrey. The LQS let us participate for free is we bought the fabric there or pay 10 dollars if we had the fabric already. This is discount store fabric. I stopped using discount store fabric for the most part this year. It just does not have the weight and quality as the Quilt Shop material. I still use discount store fabric for things I am trying out for the first time and not sure if they will work.
I have found good fabric at discount stores but it was 7 dollars a yard and I would rather pay a little more and give my business to the local quilt shop

I decided to try a new pattern and went with a company I new wrote good instructions. I was still in my first couple of months as a quilter and still not very confident. This was my first expierence with the sew and flip corners and I had trouble with them coming out as well as I thoought they should. I made the quilt work but it took a little more work than it should have.

My Son's Quilt

I was working on many quilt during the year it took for the sampler quilt to be completed. This is one I made for my son and I really thought that was a hard quilt when I was working on it. LOL Since then I have really worked on some much harder stuff. He fell in love with the fabric and it ended up being his. How can you turn down your son when he is actually interested in what you are doing.

First Sampler

This is the first sampler BOM quilt I made. It was from Glad Creations and I ordered the blocks every month for a year. I was very happy with it at the time but as I look back at it there are so many mistakes and the seams do not match up.

I always change things in the quilt kits and patterns I get be it just changing a few pieces of fabric or changing most everything.

A lady at the local quilt shop told me when I first started going there "it is your quilt do as you please" and I have!!!

I am still happy with it though because it was the start of my quilting experience.
